NBA Thunder keep Rookie of the Year Durant

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (AFP) — Reigning National Basketball Association Rookie of the Year Kevin Durant will remain with the Oklahoma City Thunder another year as the club exercised a contract option Thursday.

The Thunder, formerly the Seattle Supersonics, agreed to keep both swingman Durant and forward Jeff Green for the 2009-2010 season. Both men were members of last season's NBA All-Rookie Team.

Durant averaged 20.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 80 games for the Sonics last season, claiming Rookie of the Month honors five times.

Green averaged 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds in his rookie season, ranking fourth among NBA rookie scorers.

The Supersonics finished 20-62, worst in the NBA Western Conference last season, and moved to Oklahoma after being unable to work out terms for the construction of a new arena in Seattle.
